The Rundown: A murder of a high ranking criminal will put Emily in the crosshairs of some dangerous people.
A high ranking member of the Yakuza has been murdered and the only witness to the crime is the late man’s wife. Newburn and Emily are brought in to the investigation because the murder could spark a gang war if it isn’t solved. Unfortunately, the pair have their own theory that might make things worse.
When the autopsy of the man is completed, Newburn sends Emily to get a copy while he talks to one of his contacts. Newburn discovers too late that Emily has been sold out and that her past at the police academy could get her arrested or worse.
The Story: Zdarsky continues to craft an engaging and entertaining crime thriller with a lot of layers in both character and story. The mystery in the story is intriguing and I love the buildup of tension throughout the story. It will be interesting to see where this story goes next and what twists it will take.
The Art: Phillips delivers some great noir inspired art on every page of the issue. The art perfectly captures the tension of the story, especially in the last few pages.
