Marvel’s New Warriors was slated to air on Freeform sometime in 2018. Unfortunately, it’s going to have to find a new home.
Marvel and Disney are standing behind the comedy series, which tested extremely well, and are looking for a new home for the series which has missed the chance for a slot on Disney’s Freeform platform. The ten episode series from Kevin Biegel (Enlisted) is now being shopped to other outlets in hopes of finding a slot for the upcoming season. Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley released a statement regarding the series;
“We are extremely excited about Marvel’s New Warriors and look forward to finding the perfect partner to launch the series with in 2018,” he said.
The series, about a group of heroes learning to use their powers as well as navigate their personal lives, stars Derek Theler as Mister Immortal, Milana Vayntrub as fan-favorite Squirrel Girl, Jeremy Tardy as Night Thrasher, Calum Worthy as Speedball, Matthew Moy as Microbe and Kate Comer as Debrii.
With so many scripted Marvel shows getting ready to air including Cloak and Dagger on Freeform and Runaways on Hulu, it might be difficult for Marvel/ABC for find a home for New Warriors. There’s a rumor that the series could make its way to Disney’s On Demand service, but its unconfirmed and the service itself won’t launch until 2019. Other potential homes that have been mentioned include adding the series to the Marvel shows on Netflix, but that’s unlikely due to Marvel and Disney pulling content from the service. Hulu is also a possibility with Runaways being the only Marvel series on the service.
