The Rundown: Sulesh Reis and her crew plot to recover an important artifact.

Hearing the destruction around her, Funlola leaves The Sankofa and discovers something terrifying. Meanwhile, the attack on Eko causes massive devastation. Hours later, Sulesh Reis makes a lucrative bargain with a Jovian official. Afterwards, she and her crew plan a heist. Later, at the Jovian Embassy at Port Harcourt, a wedding celebration filled with officials and important persons takes place. There, Governor Tosin makes an unexpected speech while the Reis crew enacts their master plan. Soon, a mishap causes the crew to find themselves in danger. Then they must rely on Funlola’s assistance to escape. Finally, the crew is able to relax and prepare for their next steps. But just when all seems well, they are accosted by a surprising group.

The Story: Coker creates an interesting third chapter in this limited series. In this narrative, the themes of land and resource exploitation are addressed. Here, the Earth-Jupiter relationship parallel’s the real-life interactions between African nations and both they’re colonizers in the West and trading partners in Asia. I also appreciate the intentional political and social themes that are present within the story. Governor Tosin’s desire for Earther independence is juxtaposed brilliantly with the Reis’s desire for a better life on Jupiter. I am really enjoying this narrative and I can’t wait for the next issue.

The Art: The artwork in this issue is done in a contemporary design and contains a variety of colorwork based on tone and setting. This chapter also contains some brilliantly worked action sequences that really draw the reader into the scene. The attention to detail in both character and background is visually stimulating and forwards the story in a positive manner.
