The next issue of the New Challengers opens with a hacker going over the information that he’s stolen from the private server of Lex Luthor. A feat that should put fear into anyone, but he is oddly comfortable considering what he’s found and how far the information reaches. As he works on the data he has, he is contacted by representatives of something that immediately puts him on edge.
At the edge of the world, the Challengers have their own issues as they find themselves in a fight for their afterlives with creatures of the deep that are trying to prevent them from finding the item they have been sent to retrieve. They get some upgrades to their suits in order for them to survive and its the first positive thing that seems to have happened to them since they started this new adventure. Fortunately, they are rescued by Aquaman and he becomes distracted by a vision that prompts him to call the League as the Challengers manage to escape.
As they make their way to the bottom of the ocean and to the object they’ve been sent to retrieve, they find that their first mission together might be more difficult than they thought, especially when Moses discovers the connection to the object and his own death. When they return, they find something even more disturbing waiting for them.
I love the mystery that is being created here and that there is no one that can be trusted. It looks like there is a reason this team was brought together and hopefully, we get that mystery solved the further the series goes.
