Streaming service Netflix has just completed a deal with Penguin Random House Children to secure the rights to Brian Jacques’ critically acclaimed and bestselling series Redwall.
The Redwall series has sold over 30 million copies worldwide and Netflix is gearing up to adapt the series into both a feature film and an animated series. The studio has already brought on Patrick McHale, creator of Cartoon Network’s Over the Garden Wall to write the feature.
Redwall tells the story of a group of anthropomorphic animals living in the Redwall Abbey. The fantasy land includes mice, badgers, hares and other animals and the peace loving creatures often find themselves gearing up for battle against enemies including rats, weasels and foxes.
The Redwall Abbey Company, which owns the creators intellectual property released a statement that said in part; “Brian would have been very happy to see that Netflix shares his joy and desire to bring his stories to life as a new universe of films, series and potentially much more for audiences of all ages to enjoy.”
