It’s revelation time as Naomi’s story takes an even wilder turn in a cave outside of town.
Naomi continues to be curious about where she came from and she believes that the ship her adoptive father showed her might have the answers. In a way, she’s right, but not about what she thinks.
Her father begins to tell her his story and how it connects to Dee. He was a member of an elite squad of Rann warriors during the Rann/Thanagar War. On a secret mission to Earth, he tracks down Dee and decides that the former Thanagarian warrior is harmless. When Rann doesn’t contact him, he decides to stay on Earth and falls in love with Naomi’s adoptive mother.
Wanting to have children but unable to, the pair know what adoption is risky considering his status. Their fortunes change when a signal gets his attention and he finds himself at the local football field staring down Dee who has his own signal device going off. When a portal opens and a woman runs out with a group of aliens on her tail trying to kill her, they discover she’s carrying some incredibly precious cargo.
Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker continue to grow and evolve this story issue by issue into something I look forward to picking up. The story gets deeper and more interesting and the reveals are great. Having the conflict between Rann and Thanagar connected to the events that brought Naomi to her parents was a great addition. There are some great moments throughout this issue and the writing continues to be engaging.
Jamal Campbell’s art is fantastic. Both the style of the art and the details used in each panel make the issue visually stunning.
