The Rundown: Valentine and Jagger meet with the Don who plans to take them on a special trip.
A plane flight takes a violent turn when one of the pilots attempts to crash the plane causing a Bishop of the church and some determined passengers to storm the cockpit and regain control.
In New York, Valentine Gallo meets up with Jagger Rose and the two head to a meeting with Don Bonavese who decides to take his two favorite killers to meeting at the Vatican with the Pope.
The Story: Bendis creates some interesting and dynamic characters in this first issue. Unfortunately, that seems to be all this first issue does. Other than an interesting opening sequence, the story gives no information about the characters or gives the reader any reason to care about them or their world. A lot of characters get introduced and talked about, but there isn’t enough world building within this first issue to give me a reason why I should be interested in them. They look cool, they seem to have cool reputations and back story, but I found myself asking why I should care.
The Art: Michael Avon Oeming delivers great art that makes the story look amazing. I just wish the story felt as substantive as the art.
