Casting for Josh Boone’s New Mutants movie is already underway. Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) has already been cast as Ilyana Rasputin aka Magick. Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) has also been cast as Rahne Sinclair aka Wolfsbane. Marvel Studios alum Rosario Dawson is currently in talks to play the teams mentor Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
Two new casting announcements have been made for the film. Henry Zaga (13 Reasons Why) has been confirmed to be playing Roberto Da Costa aka Sunspot. Created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, Sunspot has the ability to absorb and channel solar energy. He also has superhuman strength and the ability to fly.
The other casting announcement comes exclusively from The Hollywood Reporter who has the news that relative newcomer Blu Hunt has been cast as Danielle Moonstar. According to the story, the studio is leaning on aspects of the Demon Bear storyline in the comics which heavily featured Moonstar, a Native American telepath who can manifest fears and desires taken from a persons mind. Hunt is best known for her guest appearances on the CW series The Originals.
Yet to be confirmed is Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton being in negotiations to play Sam Guthrie aka Cannonball. A mutant with the ability to create an impenetrable field around himself as he propels himself through the air, Cannonball is often seen in the comics as a leader of the team.
New Mutants is scheduled for release April 13, 2018.
