The Rundown: Theresa’s attempts to embrace her powers lead her to a local mystery.
After finally accepting what she can do, Theresa finds herself at a doctor’s appointment with her mother and the tension between the two continues. As they head back home, that tension is interrupted by Kelly whose interest in Theresa’s powers will bring her to their business to try and test those abilities.
Reluctantly, Theresa begins to use her deck of tarot cards and almost immediately finds herself in the world beyond her consciousness. A world that brings her to a kids show that she used to watch with her grandfather and has a connection to Kelly and her missing brother. In the aftermath, Theresa’s use of her powers seem to have gotten the attention of someone with a connection to someone she loved.
The Story: Lemire crafts an interesting story in this issue. I liked seeing more of the interpersonal conflict between Theresa and her mother, but the previous issue seemed to hint that Theresa was beginning to change and this issue didn’t really continue that change in a way I could see. I like the way the world is growing throughout the series and the teases at a bigger mystery have grabbed my attention.
The Art: Lemire delivers beautiful art throughout the issue. I love the visual style and how both worlds have wonderfully distinct and evocative looks.
