The Rundown: A young woman returns to her small town and finds herself tapping into an unknown power.
Theresa returns to her small town to take care of her mother, but she is unwilling to go straight home to confront her. After dealing with the confines of a place she tried so hard to escape, she eventually returns home to see her mother and deal with the reality of what brought her back home.
After dealing with strange visions and the uncontrollable pull of certain places, Theresa finds herself in the presence of one of her mother’s clients. As she attempts to give the woman a psychic reading, Theresa finds herself in a new and unknown place.
The Story: Lemire creates an intense and darkly engaging story in this first issue. There are some intriguing elements at play with the character of Theresa and her history in the town itself. I like the way the mystery begins to unfold and how it blends in family drama and the supernatural. It’s a rich and interesting world Lemire is creating in this first issue and I look forward to seeing how it unfolds.
The Art: Lemire delivers some beautifully detailed and visually compelling art in the issue. I like the visual contrast between Theresa and the other people in the town and how she consistently looks apart from them. It’s a great visual choice that made the character stand out.
