The Rundown: Abel has no more fight left while everyone around him prepares for the biggest one of their lives.
Abel, Bobby and the other kidnapped kids are prepared for their first day on the ethol farm and the dangers of their new life become apparent when Raider shows them what can happen if they screw up. At the same time, Abel thinks back on the life he had with his parents and his dad’s descent into the man he becomes.
Back at the carnival, Maggie and Jeb attempt to rally the rest of the carnie’s to take up arms and help them get the kids back, but Maggie’s offer for everyone to walk away leaves her alone, uncertain and distraught. When Fox returns, he shows her that there is still hope and the hunt for the kids begins.
The Story: This story keeps getting better and more emotional with each issue. Skottie Young does a brilliant job of incorporating a family story, adventure story and action story together to make something that always feels new and exciting with each issue. The characters are compelling. The dialogue is fantastic and the world Young has created continues to capture my imagination. I can’t wait to see where this story goes next.
The Art: Jorge Corona takes Young’s words and story and brilliantly brings it to life with art that is gorgeously detailed from panel to panel. Corona renders a rich, lush, beautiful world for these characters to inhabit and the landscape has as much depth as the characters themselves.
