The Rundown: Fox goes for help. Abel faces new dangers and Abel’s father can’t fight his frustration as he searches for his son.
Fox is on the run and headed back to the carnival. When he finally catches up to them, he tells everyone about Abel and Bobby being taken by Raider Farms. Knowing that the kids have become slaves to the most powerful family in Middlewest, Maggie and the others decide to join forces and go after them before the darkness inside Abel takes him over.
Abel and Bobby finally make their way to the heavily fortified Raider Farms where they discover that they are going to be performing one of the most dangerous tasks in Middlewest, harvesting Ethol. When one of the kids tries to escape, he is made an example of for the rest of the scared kids around him by Nicholas Raider himself.
At the same time, Abel’s father’s guilt and frustration continue to cut a dangerous path through the country.
The Story: Skottie Young continues to create a story filled with complex emotions and humanity. The world he is building in this issue and the series continues to be compelling and engaging. Abel is in real danger and it will be interesting to see how the boy contains the force inside him or if he lets it go in the most destructive environment possible. I love the tension in this issue and can’t wait to see what happens next for the characters.
The Art: Jorge Corona helps build a beautiful world visually. I love the style of the art in this issue and all of the characters and filled with expressive emotions.
