The Rundown: A town filled with secrets will get a visit from a mysterious woman with secrets of her own.
In the small town of Woodsburgh, WA a supernatural attack leads to a tragedy that rocks the town. Years later, the town is still reeling from the tragic loss of life and there are many who blame one of the people who survived, a local businesswoman named Lady Swanson. When some of the local men need to be taught a lesson, Lady Swanson does so at the local brothel she’s connected to, but the tragedy still haunts her.
At the same time, a mysterious woman makes her way to the town accompanied by her butler. Miss Hellaine carries a dark secret. One that will bring her back to the town on a mission of revenge.
The Story: The first issue of Mercy is filled with atmosphere, mystery and interesting characters. There is a lot of story here, but Andolfo does a brilliant job of crafting the plot so that readers become immersed in the setting, the characters and the mystery. Every part of the story builds to something unique and intriguing and none of it feels forced or unnecessary. Andolfo has created a rich and immersive world in this first issue and I can’t wait to see where this story goes next.
The Art: As well as creating an immersive story, Mirka Andolfo has offered some stunning art in this first issue. I was consistently pleased with how gorgeous this issue looked and how the art both highlights the amazing looking characters, but also the beautifully detailed backgrounds and creatures. This is a great looking book from its action filled open to its horrific cliffhanger.
