Academy Award nominee Melissa McCarthy stars in the true story of biographer, writer and forger Lee Israel.
Fox Searchlight Pictures released the first trailer for the dramedy Can You Ever Forgive Me? starring McCarthy as Israel. Lee Israel spent three decades, starting in the 1960’s, writing biographies of famous people including Estee Lauder, Katherine Hepburn and others. When the literary world changed and the public began to scramble for biographies that included more salacious details, Israel found herself out of work.
As a way of making a living, Israel turns to selling personal letters written by famous writers and actors to make a living. It’s a lucrative business that she runs along with her longtime friend Jack (Richard E. Grant) until buyers begin to question whether the letters are real, prompting she and Jack to begin stealing real letters to sell from library archives.
Can You Ever Forgive Me? stars Melissa McCarthy, Richard E. Grant, Jane Curtain, Anna Deavere Smith, Mark Evan Jackson and Tim Cummings. It’s scheduled to be released in theaters October 19, 2018.
