The Rundown: Emma’s simple life is turned upside down by a dark truth.
Emma begins her first day at a new school with a bang when she is arrested in front of the class by government agents. Emma discovers that her real name is Masterpiece Lawford and that her parents are expert level criminals who robbed a billionaire who has taken Emma in order to get it back.
After being released, Emma talks to her caregiver and best friend about her situation. After she discovers she’s being watched, she will witness a mystery man arrive who has his own agenda and plans for Emma.
The Story: Bendis creates an entertaining and engaging first issue. The character is interesting and her circumstances are compelling and intriguing. There is a great dark tone to the story that is bolstered by some awesome dialogue from Bendis and enough surprises to make me intrigued to see where this story goes next.
The Art: Maleev masterfully brings out the tone and emotion of the story with awesome art that is visually captivating.
