After the positive reception that the first trailer for what looks like Marvel’s first superhero horror movie The New Mutants garnered from fans, it was a no brainer that the heroes would return to their own title prior to the movies premiere.
Marvel Comics announced that a new six-issue series would revive the team and bring back The New Mutants. The new series, titled New Mutants: Dead Souls, will bring back a revamped New Mutants team with current and past members including Magik, Wolfsbane, Karma and Rictor along with former X-Factor member Strong Guy. It looks like the new limited series will take a new direction as the team battles supernatural threats and “things that go bump in the night”.
This new direction seems to be on par with the dark, horror tones of The New Mutants movie coming in April. New Mutants: Dead Souls will be written by Matt Rosenberg with art by Adam Gorham. “We pack it full of nods to the history of the team and hints about their future, an enough creepy moments, epic battles, offbeat humor, and dysfunctional family dynamics to make a book worth of the title ‘New Mutants,’” Rosenberg said.
New Mutants: Dead Souls will launch March 2018.
The New Mutants film will debut in theaters April 13, 2018.
