Marvel’s Inhumans

Season One Episode Five
Something Inhuman This Way Comes
Karnak (Ken Leung) and Jen have had a great night together, but Reno is not happy about it. After killing his other partner, Reno waits for the pair to get up and leave the tent. When they do, He fires his gun and Karnak’s powers kick in just in time for him to cleave the bullet in half with a well placed chop. Unfortunately, Jen gets hit with one of the halves. The two manage to escape just before Reno’s partner arrives and takes the dealer out for betrayal.
Black Bolt (Anson Mount) and Medusa (Serinda Swan) are riding with Louise (Ellen Woglom) when Locus starts to make noise from the trunk. They take her out in order to get her to lead them to Karnak. She agrees and also reveals the issues that she has with the caste system on Atillan. Words that Black Bolt seemingly takes to heart as he and the Royal Family are on the run.
Karnak thinks back on memories that he shares with his cousin Gorgon (Eme Ikwuakor) and their relationship as the two of them continue to hunt for each other. In Declan’s lab, the doctor and his assistant are performing autopsies on the recently deceased Inhumans at the facility when Auran (Sonya Balmores) awakens and almost kills them. Maximus’ (Iwan Rheon) intervention keeps Declan alive as we learn that the scientist is working for Maximus to study Inhuman DNA.
Crystal (Isabelle Cornish) finally gets Lockjaw fixed up and she and Dave teleport to the other side of the island giving Crytal time to learn more about where she is. The scene was tonally weak in comparison to the rest of the episode and Cornish’s Crystal is coming off as insufferable in all of her scenes.
The increasing mystery of the Maximus’ plans are interesting, but there needs to be more going on in this series to hold my interest. There seems to be little to no substance to the characters in this episode and their motivations are uniquely reactionary, which makes the drama fall a little flat.
