All the waiting has finally ended. We finally got an answer on the final fate of Marvel Studios attempt to make The Inhumans into a series.
One of the staples of Marvel Studios is that it has had a pretty solid track record in both the film arena and on television with shows like Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and the Netflix Marvel shows like Luke Cage, Daredevil and Jessica Jones. So when Marvel decided to scrap plans for a movie adaptation of The Inhumans and opt for a television series, fans of the characters and the studio were concerned.
Then it aired.
Personally, I did not dislike the series (I still haven’t watched the last three episodes), but there was always two strikes against it with fans and after a lackluster IMAX opening for the first two episodes and low ratings when it finally did air on ABC, the network has decided not to move forward with a second season, according to reports. Citing low rating and lack of fan support, Inhumans will go down as a rare misstep for Marvel Studios. I wouldn’t feel too bad for them though. With a new streaming service coming from Disney, the continued success of the Marvel Netflix shows, The Runaways on Hulu and the upcoming Cloak & Dagger on FreeForm, the studio still has a lot to offer fans of Marvel Comics.
This cancellation isn’t surprising to anyone who has followed the production of this series. One only wonders why it took this long for a final decision to be made.
