The Rundown: A mysterious shape is heading towards Earth and the heroes of the planet will find a threat deadlier than anything they’ve ever faced.
Reed Richards has gotten a message from Carol Danvers that an object is on an intercept course for the planet. Calling in other heroes, he confirms the object heading their way is Galactus. What they haven’t been able to confirm is whether the creature is alive or dead.
Gathering heroes from the Avengers, the X-Men and others, the Fantastic Four find themselves face to face with the dead space entity. As they investigate its corpse, collect samples and prepare to detonate the creature, Reed and the others will soon discover that they are not alone in the creature and what is waiting for them inside is a nightmare.
The Story: Marvel Zombies Resurrection brings a new horror to the heroes of the Marvel universe and Phillip Kennedy Johnson does an excellent job of crafting a first issue that draws in the reader and hits hard with both the horror and action. Throughout the issue, there was a palpable sense that something ominous was coming and Johnson does a great job of dragging out the tension until the plot kicks into gear.
The Art: Leonard Kirk’s art is amazing. He does an amazing job of tapping into the tension of the story visually and the way the art moves the story is brilliant. The reveal of the horror in this issue is beautifully done.
