Frank is going to have a tough time convincing everyone to remember who they are.
Matt Murdock is dealing with the reality that there is something wrong with the world. Standing on a rooftop talking to the ghost of Karen Page, he finds out that someone has altered the world so that heroes do not exist and the heroes themselves do not know who they are. As Matt cones to terms with what he’s lost, he realizes what he has to do. Four days earlier, a bloody and confused Bruce Banner walks into a police precinct to speak to Frank Castle. The meeting does not go well when he reveals something Frank doesn’t want to hear, but eventually the Punisher tracks him down and they begin their journey.
The next part of their journey leads them to a Mixed Martial Arts studio and its owner Elektra Natchios. When Frank confronts her about the world, Elektra reacts violently. Her violent and brutal reaction to Frank’s insistence isn’t because she is confused about what is going on. It’s because she is putting the pieces together about who she was and she doesn’t like what those pieces reveal. Unfortunately, for both of them, their brutal fight in the streets is starting to make Bruce Banner extremely angry.
This story is getting good both for what we see on the page, but also for the personal drama bubbling under the surface. In almost any other circumstance, once the heroes find out who they are, they band together to find out what happened. The fact that these characters are reluctant to dig deeper is the source of a lot of great drama. Elektra’s desire not to return to her former life echoes Frank’s perfectly and Rosenberg and Cates capture that tension throughout this issue and series.
The fight between Frank and Elektra was amazing, but the visual cues that showed Bruce’s increasing anger and what it was doing to him were awesome. Niko Henrichon’s art is brilliant and beautiful in this issue. I loved every detail and panel.
