Marvel Studios has a huge slate of movies coming up in the future and it looks like one of them will focus on one of Jack Kirby’s works.
Eternals was created by Jack Kirby and made their first appearance in 1976 after his return to Marvel. They are described as an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created sentient life on Earth. The original instigators of this process, the alien Celestials, intended the Eternals to be the defenders of Earth, which leads to the inevitability of war against their destructive counterparts, the Deviants. The story is described as a Game of Thrones style cosmic power play with characters moving and plotting against each other behind the scenes of human history. This opens up a new style of storytelling for the MCU with elements that can connect the cosmic universe to the events on Earth.
Marvel Studios has brought in Black List writers Matthew and Ryan Firpo to write the script for the movie based on their spec for the movie Ruin, which shot to the top of the Black List in 2017.
Eternals is still in the script stage, but it will be interesting to see where and how this story fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the events of both Infinity War and the upcoming Avengers 4.
