Marvel Studios dominated Hall H this past weekend at San Diego Comic Con International and part of that domination was due to the announcement of new films coming from the studio as well as introducing the new heroes joining the MCU.
One of the biggest announcements was that there would be a new Blade film coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali will take on the role of the vampire hunting Day Walker Blade the Vampire Hunter for a new film from Kevin Feige and the MCU. Ali was on hand to bask in the cheers from the crowd as it was announced.
Wesley Snipes previously played the character in three films for New Line Cinema and it is unclear whether the new Blade film will be rated R like the others. Ali is no stranger to the Marvel Universe either. He played the villain Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in the first season of Marvel’s Luke Cage on Netflix.
No further details were revealed, but the prospect of a new Blade film is interesting given the MCU’s more family-friendly history. Could a new Blade film signal that Marvel Studios is willing to embrace the darker side of their universe? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
