The Rundown: Two complete strangers discover their lives are being affected by a couple of devils on a mission.

Cam is an adjunct professor who enjoys what he does, but isn’t having the best of luck in his life. Jo is a nurse who is good at what she does, but can’t seem to get ahead. As Cam finds himself getting angry about his bad luck at work, with his finances and in his dating life, Jo becomes envious of her co-worker’s new car and promotion.

As the two go to sleep that night, they are visited by two devils named Collar and Rake who explain to them that they’ve been assigned to them their whole lives and nothing they do seems to push these seemingly good people over the edge. The devils propose a new plan for their targets. One that will bring the humans power they never dreamed of and put the devils in a position to change their world forever.

The Story: Soule crafts an entertaining and engaging story in this first issue. I love this story from a conceptual level. It’s an interesting premise that has complex layers that I want to explore. I think Cam’s lesson in the beginning of the story is a great way to tease the world of this story. Both the human and devil characters are interesting on their own and I look forward to seeing how this story progresses.

The Art: I love Browne’s art style in this first issue. The two worlds are uniquely balanced and I love the character designs, especially when they are succumbing to the influence of the devils as well as the hell these creatures come from.
