The Rundown: Joan’s life takes a major turn as she finally admits something she’s been hiding.
Joan is getting older and preparing for the wedding of her oldest son. Unfortunately, something is happening to Don and she cannot do anything to stop it. As the years go by for them physically, it continues to be 1963 and when Don has an accident that requires him to go to the doctor, the couple receive some devastating news that will change their lives.
With Don’s diagnosis, Joan finds herself put in the role of caregiver as he refuses treatment in order to make it to the wedding. As life continues, tragedy strikes the couple and Joan finds herself finally admitting the truth to herself and saying out loud something she’s been trying to hide.
The Story: King crafts an entertaining and bittersweet story in this issue. Joan’s journey continues to be one that is filled with interesting moments and this issue brings a lot of intriguing elements together as the story moves to a place that Joan has been keeping herself from admitting to. The plot has some great dialogue and narration that immerses the reader into the world Joan lives in and the mystery of why it is continues to be 1963 is one that keeps me engaged.
The Art: Charretier delivers some beautiful art in the issue. I love the visual style of this series and Charretier creates a brilliantly immersive visual world that is enjoyable.
