The Rundown: Joan falls in love in the old west and her tragedy will lead to a discovery.
Joan Peterson lives a quiet life in the old west when she meets and falls for the town sheriff Henry. Their love story is tragically cut short when a murder leads to a deadly gun fight with a gang of murderous brothers.
When Henry’s brother Jake goes on a mission of revenge, he tells Joan that it wasn’t to avenge, but because of love. A love that will lead the pair to a moment that will pull Joan from that time and send Jake on a mission to discover who took his love.
The Story: King brings readers back into the complicated and beautifully rich world of Joan in a story that not only adds to the overall mystery of the series, but also reveals the truth behind one of its most mysterious characters. I love the tone of this story and how entertaining and engaging it is. It continues to be a great premise that surprises and excites with each issue.
The Art: Charretier delivers fantastic art throughout the issue. The visuals capture the gritty tone of the story as well as the wonderful aesthetic of romance comics.
