The Robinson Family’s adventures in space are coming to an end after being given a third and final season on streaming service Netflix.
According to Deadline, while the series will be ending in 2021 with season three, the streaming service is not done with its relationship with Lost In Space showrunner Zack Estrin.
Estrin released a statement about the series coming to an end stating; “From the beginning, we’ve always viewed this particular story of The Robinsons as a trilogy,” Estrin said. “A three-part epic family adventure with a clear beginning, middle and end. It’s also worth noting that, with what these characters go through just trying to survive each episode — if anyone deserves to catch their breath before their next mission — it’s Will, Penny, Judy, Maureen, John, Don West, Dr. Smith… and The Robot. And, of course, Debbie the Chicken. So while this chapter of Lost In Space is coming to a rousing conclusion, I’m excited about continuing to explore new stories with my friends at Netflix, and for all of the incredible possibilities that lie ahead.”
Lost In Space is produced by Legendary Television and there is speculation that one of the reasons the series is ending is because Netflix is looking to produce the bulk of its own original content. With that in mind, Estrin has signed a multi-year overall deal to produce new series exclusively for Netflix.
The second season of Lost In Space is currently streaming on Netflix.
