Loki
Disney Plus
Season 1 Episode 6
For All Time. Always.
The clock is ticking in the season finale which finds Loki and Sylvie on a date with destiny.
The opening for the season finale of Loki already intrigues the viewer with a series of voice overs from multiple characters across the Marvel Cinematic Universe underscored by “It’s been a long, long time” from the end of Endgame. It’s a cacophony of light and sound culminating in the characters standing in front of their goal and every moment is thrilling.
Miss Minutes returns as Loki and Sylvie enter the Citadel at the End of Time and discover that “He Who Remains” wants to strike a deal with the pair. A deal that will send them back into the timeline along with everything they’ve ever wanted. After rejecting her deal, she returns to Ravonna and you get the sense that Ravonna is still being kept in the dark about things. The mystery and tension of these moments is brilliantly done.
He Who Remains is revealed and it is so huge I would never dream of spoiling it in a review. Suffice it to say that this reveal will have ripples throughout the MCU as the next phase moves forward. As Loki and Sylvie find themselves in the presence of the man behind the curtain, Ravonna has her own troubles when Mobius returns to confront her. We finally get a look into Ravonna’s past as well with the help of Hunter B-15.
The reveals in this episode are fantastic in how they pile up and explain so much. There is a lot going across all aspects of this episode and He Who Remains makes things more complicated for the pair by giving them a choice that leads to both of them finally determining who and what they are going to be to themselves and the universe. It is a series of tense and dramatic moments that culminate in a decision that will change everything. It’s a sweet moment between the two characters that is both surprising and melancholy.
The season finale of Loki was absolutely brilliant. It hit all the story and character beats necessary to keep the viewer informed, invested and entertained. Everything in the episode was wonderfully done and the ending of the episode was one of the best I have seen from any series.
