Lois Lane #6
DC Comics
Written by Greg Rucka
Art by Mike Perkins
Colors by Gabe Eltaeb
Letters by Simon Bowland
A loss in Lois’ life will bring back bittersweet memories from her past.
In the aftermath of the Leviathan reveal, Sam Lane is dead. The former spymaster and head of ARGUS is given a state funeral and everyone is there, especially the man’s daughters, son in law and grandson. As people remember Sam and his life, Lois recalls the volatile and contentious moments she shared with her father.
As she comes to grips with her new reality, Lois will recount the moment she told her father her biggest secret and tell her husband of the regret that she shares because things between the two of them had to the potential to be better.
At the halfway point in this limited series, Greg Rucka takes a step back to give Lois time to grieve and uses this issue to explore the complicated relationship Lois had with her father. In the midst of the myriad of storylines affecting the man of steel, it’s easy to sideline Lois and forget that she’s dealing with these things alongside her husband. This issue does a great job of putting a lot of those stories in perspective from her point of view. I can’t wait to see how Rucka gets back to the story he’s telling in this series with the upcoming Superman related arcs still yet to be released.
Mike Perkins’ art is the perfect complement to this story. This story is darker in its tone than the previous issue and Perkins matches that tone with the art. There are some amazingly well done emotional moments from the characters, especially Lois and the art reflects a somber, solemn type of issue. Very well done.
