The Rundown: Jack picks up an old friend and finds a new purpose when old temptations come calling.
After a year of turmoil, Jack travels to Ohio to pick up Rudy from prison. After returning to Farmington, the young woman sees the new life that Jack has been making for himself as the town continues to rebuild. Even Jack’s mother has a new life training the new crop of superheroes that call the town their home. At the same time, Jack gets a visit from a former flame who offers him a chance to return to the spotlight.
After taking on a few missions as part of Third Gen, Jack is riding high, but his mission to bring down a new generation super team has him questioning his purpose as Rudy confronts him with some uncomfortable truths about the old life he’s leaned back into.
The Story: Seeley and Fleecs do a brilliant job of moving Jack’s story forward in new and interesting ways. There is a great lighter tone to this story as Jack finds himself comfortable in his new life while being tempted by the trappings of his old one. I like the emotional conflict throughout the story and seeing how Jack evolves both in his life and his convictions. It’s going to be interesting to see what consequences he faces after what he’s done.
The Art: Seeley and Fleecs deliver beautiful art throughout the issue. I continue to love the visual style of this series and both artists craft beautifully detailed pages and panels that perfectly capture the tone of the story.
