Emmy nominee Lizzy Caplan is currently in talks to take a role in the Fox X-Men universe of films.
According to reports in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, the Masters of Sex star is in talks to play the female lead in the Gambit movie starring Channing Tatum and directed by Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl). Caplan’s only foray into the superhero film genre so far was a role in the Marvel One-Shot: Item 47 where she played one of a duo of thieves using stolen Chitauri technology to rob banks.
Channing Tatum is taking the lead role which has him playing the Cajun mutant thief with the ability to manipulate the kinetic energy in any object. It will be curious to see which female lead the producers and writer go with. Gambit’s love interest in the comic books was the X-Men hero Rogue, but his history with another character might be a clue to who Caplan could end up playing.
With the movie taking place in New Orleans, it would stand to reason that the female lead in the film might be Gambit’s first love Bella Donna Boudreaux. Bella Donna grew up with Remy LeBeau aka Gambit and became friends until they find out that their families belong to rival, warring guilds; Gambit, a member of the Thieves Guild and Bella Donna, a member of the Assassin’s Guild. Bella Donna is also a mutant with the powers of astral projection and plasma blasts.
Gambit is scheduled to be released Valentine’s Day 2019.
