The Rundown: Jerome’s worlds continue to collide as his daughter’s friend reveals a dangerous secret.

After discovering what happened to his father and who did it, Toby calls Jo to tell her the truth about what he discovered about himself. He realizes that he cannot die and laments the fact that his mother is while revealing to Jo that their fathers were demons. A truth Jo begins to accept when she sees what Toby can do. At the same time, Jerome is on his next mission to stop and return a dangerous entity with control over the dead.

In the aftermath, Toby does something dangerous and desperate to save his mother while Jo manifests a hidden power that reaches her missing mother and by extension, the leader of the sect she now lives with. Jerome pays a visit to his handler and learns the truth about him before getting another assignment that is close to home.

The Story: Yarsky continues to craft an interesting and engaging story in this series and this issue raises the stakes for all the characters involved. I liked moving Jerome’s story to the background in this issue and focusing on Jo and Toby. There story puts Jerome’s mission into perspective and showcases the stakes for all of the characters while deepening the mystery of Jo’s mother. The story has a wonderful buildup of tension that pays off with the reveal at the end of the issue.

The Art: Yarsky delivers beautifully detailed and dynamic art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this series and how it transitions from the supernatural to the personal.
