The Rundown: Jerome’s new gig will not only bring him back into a world he tried to escape from, but also pit him against a friend.
Jerome’s first mission as the new shepherd will bring him face to face with a couple of elderly demons who feast on the bodies of the dead. After using his powers to trick the pair and get the drop on them, he returns their bodies to the hellmouth while his daughter confides in a friend about the growing distance between them.
After spending some time with his daughter at home, Jerome finds himself going on another mission. One that will bring him to an old friend who refuses to return. As the pair begin to fight, neither of them sees that they are being watched.
The Story: Yarsky continues to craft an entertaining and engaging story in this issue. Not only do I continue to be impressed with the premise of this story, but the characters are compelling. I love the complications that are being introduced as well as Jerome’s attempts to be a better father. There is a great balance of fun and tragedy throughout this story as we see Jerome struggle with something he had no choice in and the final confrontation with his friend is both tragic and intriguing.
The Art: Yarsky bolsters an entertaining story with great art. I love the creature designs a lot as well as the human characters and their environments. A great looking issue from start to finish.
