The Rundown: The kids are at war with each other as one of them is captured by a dangerous human.
Victoria’s past is revealed as her friendship with the child of a rich family costs her everything. Forced to beg in the streets, she finds herself saved by Romeka and the elders. Back in the present, Lucas and the others are discovered by Billy and his group as their bloodlust has made them more violent and destructive. A lust that will cause them to do something personal to their friends if they don’t hand over the human girl they are protecting.
At the same time, the surviving twin finds himself in the hands of one of the humans he tried to kill. As the pair travel back to where the kids are living, the man learns more about the vampires as well as tells the child what he plans to do when he finds them all.
The Story: Lemire crafts a thrilling story in this issue and I love getting more of the backstory of these characters as their world continues to expand and evolve. I enjoyed the stakes in this issue and how the characters are turning on each other. The mystery at the heart of the series continues to be intriguing and I cannot wait to see where it goes next.
The Art: Nguyen delivers some beautiful art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this series and how Nguyen conveys emotions visually.
