The Rundown: Billy’s group races to confront Romie when they discover the truth.
It’s a dangerous time for Lucas and his family as they try to escape East Berlin and find freedom on the other side of the wall. Unfortunately, the recklessness of youth causes a tragedy that Lucas continues to live with as he and Yui confront Billy and his group in the crypts. The pair leave the others to discover the truth about the Elders and Billy goes looking for Romie.
At the same time, Laura has managed to find a hidden cache just as she’s discovered by Finnick who tells her he plans on using the remaining twin as bait to destroy the other vampires. A prospect that will bring both groups together for a final confrontation.
The Story: Lemire crafts an engaging story filled with betrayal, danger and tragedy for the young monsters trying to find their place in a dying world. The interpersonal conflicts continue to be fantastically fleshed out and all of the characters, both human and vampire, have compelling stories that make you care what happens to them. The events of this story come to a wonderfully organic head as both sides prepare for a conflict that neither is prepared for. I cannot wait to see where this story goes next.
The Art: Nguyen delivers masterfully detailed and emotionally stunning art throughout the issue. Lucas’ story is filled with action, danger and tragedy and I loved soaking in the visual beauty of the issue.
