The Rundown: As the children are split, Lucas and Yui want answers only Romie can give them.
After freeing the human, Lucas and Yui find themselves locked in a crypt with the decaying bodies of the creatures that turned them and the only one who knows why, Romie. Romeka thinks back to the past after they were turned and the journey through time that would not only create the tragedy that made them silent, but also attract others on their journey.
As the world of man evolved, Romie wonders why they are not allowed to feed on them. As the group gets bigger and the elders continue to disappear, Romeka has a final conversation with the last elder where she discovers why they have been turned and why the rules they live by are so important.
The Story: Lemire creates a wonderful backstory for Romi in this issue. A backstory that answers a lot of the burning questions in the series while also crafting a bittersweet story for the characters. I enjoyed every moment of the issue and the subtlety of the storytelling. The world of these characters continues to be engaging and I love the determination of the character as well as the mystery of what will happen next.
The Art: Nguyen delivers some beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. The world of the characters looks amazing and the characters have a wonderful visual spark to them that makes you feel for them.
