The Rundown: Mechanika finds herself in the lair of the monster and makes a difficult choice.
Mechanika finds herself swimming in darkness and discovers that it is connected to the monster beneath the lake. After waking up, she finds herself in the company of the missing people she was sent to find and those people inform her that they are not the first to be brought to the underwater cave the monster calls home. After discovering the true nature of the creature, Mechanika makes a deal with it to let the others leave.
At the same time, Lewis and Fred make their way to the court of the princess and are informed of the deal that Mechanika made that would leave her trapped with the creature. After making his way to the underwater cave, Lewis has to convince Mechanika to leave, but her guilt and the motivations of the creature might not let her.
The Story: Benitez and Chen deliver a thrilling, suspenseful and thoroughly entertaining conclusion to this story. There are some great character moments throughout and a beautifully tragic and bittersweet tone that is exemplified in the communication between Mechanika and the monster. I love the interpersonal conflict within this story a lot and how the plot shows how interesting and unique a character Lady Mechanika is. It definitely makes me want to read more of her adventures.
The Art: Siya Oum’s art is breathtaking. I love the details throughout the pages and panels. I love the shift in visual style when Mechanika confronts the dragon in her mind. I loved everything about the visual style of this world and its characters.
