The Rundown: Lady Mechanika travels to Russia to investigate a missing family and a possible monster.
An expedition into Siberia takes a dark turn and a Russian princess turns to Lady Mechanika for help in finding an old friend and possibly killing a monster of legend that might have found them. After deciding to take the case, Mechanika pays a visit to an old friend, but finds things colder than Siberia itself.
After making the trip to the remote location, Mechanika, her guide and the guards sent with them make their way into the mountains where they will discover dark threats in the woods as well as psychological torments that might be part of something darker.
The Story: Benitez and Chen create an exciting and entertaining first issue with a story that immediately immerses the reader into the strange and interesting world of this character. I really enjoyed the mystery being formed within this first issue as well as the cast of characters dealing with their own superstitions and the mystery of Lady Mechanika herself. There is a great buildup of tension throughout the story and the finale has hooked me and made me excited to see where the story goes next.
The Art: Oum deliver some beautifully detailed and visually immersive art throughout this issue. Not only do the characters look amazing, but the backgrounds wonderfully convey the cold and isolation of the location.
