Incorporating both CGI and motion capture can be jarring visually and very hard to accomplish even for the best special effects artisans. Fortunately, the team behind the visual effects of blockbusters like Avatar and Warcraft have managed to craft a stunning looking film.
L.O.R.D. takes place in a mystical land where seven noble lords protect their four countries using soul magic. When a bus boy named Qi Ling is dragged into a battle between the soul masters and a soul beast named Ice Fang, Qi Ling finds himself bonded to the creature after taming him. The orphan is then put into the hands of master Yin Chen to be his disciple and learn the ways of soul magic. During his journey and subsequently, during his quest to find his soul weapon, Qi Ling encounters other in training like himself and their respective Lords find themselves embroiled in a mystery and conspiracy that threatens to destroy everything that they hold dear.
The film looks gorgeous. From the motion capture in the faces, to the detailed backgrounds, there is an elegant beauty to the look of this film. The action sequences are fast paced and fluid and the voice acting is great. The overall plot is good. There are moments when you might get lost in the thread if you don’t pay attention and some characters seem to float in and out of the narrative when convenient, but the movie is enjoyable to see.
