The Rundown: Catwoman’s nightmare revolves around her relationships with Sister Zero and Batman.
Catwoman is confronted by Sister Zero during her pursuit of a villain and the two have an interesting discussion. Later, Catwoman details their relationship as the two work to help their community. Afterwards, the sisters go on a dangerous mission where they are aided by someone unexpected. Then an incident occurs and Catwoman must assist a recovering Batman. Finally, the former couple decide to fight against a deadly enemy despite Sister Zero’s misgivings.
The Story: I really liked this tale. The dichotomy of Selina and Maggie’s view on religion and how it affect their sense of purpose is very compelling. As this is happening in Selina’s dream, it is very telling how she views herself and those around her. I also appreciated how the narrative brings in Batman and has her set up as his protector. It enforces the strength of Catwoman’s character while also showing her nurturing side. I am curious how these events will play into the total crossover event.
The Art: This issue uses traditional artwork and detailed design to visually enhance its storytelling. There are some interesting action scenes and emotional moments that are very connective to the readers, and a subtlety to the nightmarish quality of the sequences that may be easily overlooked. I was impressed with the work and felt transported with each page.
