The Rundown: Knull is coming and the heroes of Earth prepare for his arrival, but will it be enough?
The time Eddie Brock has dreaded is finally here and he calls in the Avengers to help when he senses the presence of Knull and his army heading towards Earth. Before he can begin his part of the plan to stop the despot, he has to protect the one thing in the world that is the most precious to him. With a wave of enemies barreling down on the planet, Tony Stark has a plan to stop them with the fleet of discarded alien ships surrounding the planet.
When that plan fails, the rest of the heroes go into action trying to evacuate as many people as they can as Knull makes his appearance using entities that the heroes could not possibly defeat alone. As things get more dire, the heroes call in their biggest gun to take on Knull, but the villain proves to be a harder foe than they’ve faced as his plan requires Eddie Brock to make the ultimate sacrifice to save both his son and the planet.
The Story: Right out the gate, Donny Cates gives the reader the action, thrills and stakes that have been teased for this character and is arrival. The story is filled with dramatic tension, heart and thrills. It’s a huge story that is brilliantly handled by the writing. Nothing feels unnecessary or wasted and there are some great surprises throughout. This is a well focused story that keeps the reader riveted to the action and the characters. I cannot wait to see where it goes next.
The Art: Ryan Stegman thrills with the art in this issue. The characters look amazing and the action is beautifully done. I was blown away by the scope and scale of the scenes and how Stegman stages the panels to keep the story character focused while also delivering huge action.
