With the unprecedented word of mouth success of the Netflix documentary series Tiger King, fans of the true crime series have been clamoring for more from the eccentric cast of characters led by the totally unique and original Joe Exotic.
Never fear comedy fans, SNL alum Kate McKinnon is ready to take you back into that wacky world with a new limited series she will executive and star in about the Tiger King called ‘Joe Exotic’. UCP, the studio behind Dirty John and Homecoming is developing the series with McKinnon and the comedian will take on the role of Carole Baskin.
According to a Deadline synopsis of the limited series; “In Joe Exotic, when big cat enthusiast Carole Baskin (McKinnon) learns that fellow exotic animal lover, Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel (aka Joseph Maldonado-Passage) is breeding and using his big cats for profit, she sets out to shut down his venture, inciting a quickly escalating rivalry. But Carole has a checkered past of her own, and when the claws come out, Joe will stop at nothing to expose her hypocrisy. The results prove deadly.”
There is currently no streaming service or network attached to the limited series, but the popularity of the Netflix documentary series and McKinnon’s comedic chops should peak the interest of a few of them.
