Fans of the animated adventures of the Justice League and Young Justice need to get their binge on and start watching because both shows will be leaving the streaming service Netflix in August.
Fans have been enjoying both series on the streaming service for years now. The fandom even helped prompt a return of Young Justice based partly on viewers of the original series on Netflix. So why are both Young Justice and Justice League leaving Netflix now?
The most plausible scenario is because of the return of Young Justice for season 3. Young Justice’s third season, which is called Young Justice: Outsiders is currently in production and expected to be released in 2018. Here is the official synopsis of season 3:
In Young Justice: Outsiders, the teenage Super Heroes of the DC Universe come of age in an animated world of super-powers, Super-Villains and super secrets. In the highly anticipated new season, the team faces its greatest challenge yet as it takes on meta-human trafficking and the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy.
Young Justice: Outsiders will premiere on a new DC Comics based digital service in 2018. The untitled service will also feature the live action Titans series from Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti. With the creation of a new digital service that will feature DC Comics based content specifically, it would make sense to import the previous seasons of Young Justice and both Justice League and Justice League: Unlimited to the same platform in order to have content to attract subscribers.
Similar speculation was made after the 1966 Batman series was removed from streaming services as well. While the new service has not released any further information regarding its lineup, it can be inferred that the history of DC Comics television both animated and live action would be featured.
No information regarding pricing and availability of the service has been released, but I will continue to follow this story.
