The Rundown: With the team separated and Cruz captured by Cyborg, a new ally works in the wings to help them.
Orion and Jessica Cruz have been captured by Cyborg and Darkseid’s New New Gods and they are determining whether to bring them in or kill them on the spot. Jessica continues to receive transmissions from Vic. Transmissions that tell her that she should kill him if given the chance because he doesn’t know if he can fight against Darkseid’s influence.
At the same time, Blackfire, Hax and the Red Lantern find themselves fighting a series of self-repariring robots that are trying to stop them from going deeper into the debris field. When the scavenger they encountered in the previous issue is tasked to help the Justice League, Orion and Jessica fight back and the rest of the team meets the force behind the debris field defenses.
The Story: Abnett adds an interesting new twist at the end of this issue. The discovery has the potential to change everything about this story and I am intrigued to see where Abnett goes with the story. The overall plot is starting to slow down a little and that can be both positive and negative. It is positive because Cruz and Orion get to grow and evolve while the team comes together. The negative comes from wanting to know what happened to the rest of the team and getting back to Dakrseid’s plan. This is a fun distraction, but the main story that brought me on as a reader is what I want to get back to.
The Art: Will Conrad delivers some beautiful art in this issue. The characters look great and the action is dynamic and full of detail.
