The Rundown: The League makes a final push against Darkseid to save the universe.
After being lured to Apokalips to fulfill Darkseid’s final plan for the universe, the League enlists the help of Lobo to stop the armies gathered to stop them as the rest of them take on Darkseid himself. What they finally realize is that they are not fighting alone when the consciousness of a fallen teammate comes to their aid in a new form. One that stands toe to toe with Darkseid himself.
As the battle rages on, Batman puts himself in harm’s way to defend Superman and is gravely injured as Wonder Woman finds herself injured as well. At the same time, Hal looks for revenge for what Darkseid did to him and the League rallies to stop the despot before he deploys a plan that will destroy entire worlds at the same time.
The Story: Zdarsky brings this story to an exciting and entertaining conclusion in this issue. The return is handled brilliantly and its meaning to the rest of the issue is done exceedingly well. The humor and heart in the story come through in the character interactions and relationships and Zdarsky does a great job of making the reader care about the characters and their circumstances.
The Art: Mendonca does phenomenal work with the art in this issue. There are great action moments throughout and the detailed characters look amazing on the page.
