The Rundown: A new Justice League from across the multiverse assembles to stop Darkseid.
On Earth-8 the superhero team known as the Retaliators meets to spend some down time together when a light appears in the skies over the city. When Doctor Multiverse emerges, she immediately draws the ire of the heroes when she arrives with the head of one of their teammates lost in the battle with Darkseid. Following behind her is Tartarus who is set on taking the energy of the multiverse for himself and his forces.
Superman Calvin Ellis and Thomas Wayne travel to Earth 0 to recruit Avery Ho to their new team. After convincing her to join them, they travel to their base and ask her to use her powers to help them track both the tears in the multiverse and hopefully Barry Allen as well. When the heroes make their way to Earth-8, they find the heroes of that world in peril and as they prepare to fight Tartarus, the arrival of Darkseid puts all of them at risk.
The Story: Williamson and Culver deliver an exciting story in this first issue. The story deftly delivers the stakes of the team’s mission as well as shows the ramifications of the multiverse threat. I found myself amused at the Avengers parody team, the Retaliators. It was a fun concept taken in some interesting and amusing directions. I like the threat Darkseid represents in the series and look forward to what comes next.
The Art: All of the artists delivers some great, dynamic and beautifully detailed art on every page of the issue.
