The Rundown: Two separate tales lay out the upcoming Endless Winter as well as the fact that this has happened before.
At the former location of the Fortress of Solitude, Sebastian Stagg has made a discovery of crystals that could potentially unlock power that he can exploit and he will stop at nothing to get the plunder out of the area. At the same time, the Justice League decides to take on a group of villains who have decided to infiltrate and take over a small inhabited island nation. After ending the threat, they are called to the same location when the researchers start being attacked by ice creatures.
The League will discover quickly that the ice creatures are the least of their worries as a dangerous new threat emerges from the ice. A threat that finds something familiar about the heroes facing it. As winter begins to spread throughout the world, Black Adam is reminded of a similar circumstance in the past where he was freed in order to stop it.
The Story: Lanning and Marz craft a good story with this first issue. There are some good elements to it as well with the connection to the past and the reveal of who this entity faced at the end of the story. There is a lot of setup in this issue so not much happens in the way of character development or theme. The story is good. It will remain to be seen if the story goes from good to great at any point.
The Art: Porter and Santucci do a great job with the art in both stories. There are some great action beats and the details in the panels are well done.
