The Rundown: The Witching War continues as we learn the tragic and terrible origins of Circe and her Injustice League Dark makes their move.
Circe’s past and her introduction to Hecate begin this dark chapter as Wonder Woman returns to her friends and immediately goes after the Eclipso crystal. With both Kent Nelson and Zatanna unaware of the change in the amazon, they return to the rest of the team.
When Bobo realizes what’s wrong, he tries to warn Zatanna, but it’s too late as Circe emerges and brings her Injustice League Dark into the heart of the Hall of Justice. The heroes are in for the fight of their lives as their numbers and powers dwindle. Helpless to return, Diana will discover a dark entity that has a proposition for her.
The Story: With Circe finally making her move, this issue takes the story to some dark and dramatic places. James Tynion IV takes this story in some dark and terrifying directions. The origin of Circe was well done and the plot was laid out in a way where the characters and the tension built to some great dramatic and action packed moments. Tynion IV also does an impressive job of making sure that the reader knows that these characters are capable even when in dire straits and both Detective Chimp and Zatanna have great heroic moments throughout this issue. Justice League Dark continues to be a great series and this issue makes me want to see what happens next.
The Art: This issue has some beautiful imagery from Javi Fernandez. Everything from the characters to the backgrounds is filled with awesome contrasting light and dark images and the final page is gorgeously disturbing.
