The Rundown: The League goes after the power behind the Deathstroke imposters and Justice League Dark fights one of their own.

The League teams with Checkmate to determine why there is a group of mercenaries pretending to be Deathstroke. After isolating one of the mercs, they let him go and wait for him to meet up with his leader. Unfortunately, their plan hits a snag when an attack interrupts their surveillance. The team decides to try another tactic with one of the survivors and they need Hippolyta to do it.

After getting some answers, the team converges on another group of Deathstrokes and look for more answers. As they work their way up the food chain, they discover more layers and questions to be answered. As their investigation yields a group of suspects, Superman will receive an alert about an unusual and very personal theft.

Justice League Dark faces off against a possessed Zatanna as Arthur goes after the real Merlin inside the temple. As John fights to free Zatanna, Aquaman finds himself fighting alongside allies as Merlin awakens an ancient magical power.

The Story: The Justice League story has some entertaining moments in it. It does have a tendency to rely too heavy on quips and banter between characters and that takes away from the reader feeling engaged in the plot or its stakes. The Justice League Dark story is a lot more involving and exciting in both its plotting and execution. I wish it were longer in fact.

The Art: Hester delivers some good art in the issue. The style works well for the tone of the story. Kumar does brilliant work with the art in the JL Dark story. It’s beautifully detailed and engaging.
