The Rundown: The Justice League will face a dark threat from an old enemy.
On their way back to Earth from deep space, members of the League begin to have visions of their lives and the decisions they made to become heroes. Visions that challenge the lives they’ve made and the people those lives affect.
When they emerge from space, they discover that they aren’t home. They’ve been re-routed to an unknown world. When they go down to the planet to determine what lured them there, they discover that the planet is inhabited by a creature some of them have faced before. A creature who is powerful, cunning and has a keen insight into their minds, their memories and their dreams.
The Story: I really enjoyed the dark undertones of this story. Jeff Loveness goes deep into the psyche of these characters as they face a threat that is both surprising and challenging. The story progresses really well and is a slow build to both the discovery and its conclusion. What also works is the examination of these characters and their relationships to each other as well as the circumstances that are being challenged. This is really well done story with a great cliffhanger ending.
The Art: Robson Rocha offers some great visuals throughout this issue. The characters look amazing. There are beautiful details in every panel. The planet itself is dark and ominous. A great looking issue.
