It looks like Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin will not be alone in their return to the Marvel Universe.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Bernthal, who played the vigilante The Punisher on season two of Daredevil on Netflix before getting his own series, has been added to the cast of the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series coming to Disney Plus.
Daredevil: Born Again is being written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord and will span 18 episodes, a first for a Marvel series on Disney Plus.
Bernthal brought The Punisher aka Frank Castle to life on Daredevil’s Netflix series in 2016 and after the Marvel shows were cancelled on the streamer, fans wondered if the characters would find their way into the expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bernthal addressed his desire to return to the character in an interview with THR in 2021 stating;
“I think if there’s any let up on that character, you do a disservice to the character, to every iteration of the character, to every comic book that’s come before, and to all of the unbelievable fans of the character,” he said. “This character means so much to people in the military. So like I said before, it’s not about whether you do the character; it’s about whether you can do it right, and I’m only interested in doing it right.”
Both Daredevil and Kingpin have transitioned into the MCU in films like Spider-Man: No Way Home and the Hawkeye series and the pair will return in the upcoming Echo series before Born Again premieres in the spring of 2024.
